Welcome, Regina!

We’re excited to introduce Regina Shen, our newest intern! Learn more about her role as an intern, career journey, and who excites her about life.

Tell us about your role as an intern at Holistic. What do you do? Who are you working with?

At Holistic, I'm working mostly with the client team though I hope to do more communications work down the line! Right now I'm working mainly with Christie while I help streamline the client and employee onboarding process by updating the client portal. It's been really fun learning how to use the new client software and getting into the groove of things! I'm also excited to do more work on communications with Maggie and to get to know more of the team!

Where do you currently go to school? What do you study? Can you share a few of your career goals with us?

I'm currently a second-year at the University of Chicago studying Economics, with a specialization in business, and Environmental and Urban Studies. I'm really interested in the intersections between my two majors, more specifically, the intersection between the business world and the environment and social impact! Though I'm still not sure about what I want to pursue as a career, I definitely want it to fall into the social impact and business space!

What makes you excited about working at Holistic?

I'm super excited to work at Holistic because of the culture! Everyone I've met has been warm and welcoming and our slack channel is always full of fun anecdotes, pictures of pets and plants, jokes, or positive feedback from clients. The positive and easy-going nature of Holistic is something that I've really appreciated! Also, when I first started working with the client portal, I had a million questions but Christie was super receptive to each one and was also really open to any thoughts or ideas I had. It's rare to find a workplace that balances serious work, collaboration, and fun so well but that's the culture at Holistic and why I'm excited to intern here!

What do you do for fun?

In my free time, I love to read and explore! The last book I read was a Pale View of the Hills by Kazuo Ishiguro and I have an eye on his newest book, Klara and the Sun, for my next read but there are also a few books on my shelf that I should probably get to first! I also love exploring museums and new restaurants and cafes. I'm not artistically gifted at all but I love going to art museums and seeing how people can be creative in so many different ways!

Who is someone you admire?
The person I admire the most is definitely my mom. She immigrated to the U.S. alone when she was in her twenties without knowing a word of English but now she owns a small business and is the strongest person I know. She never gives up even when things are tough and uncertain. I really admire her tenacity and strength and I hope to be as strong and as fearless as her one day!

What are you listening to at the moment? Watching? Obsessed with?

Recently, I've been listening to Sunny Boy, an album by Ritt Momney (the artist behind Put Your Records On), on repeat! I've also been listening to a lot of Hadji Gaviota and Audrey Nuna, who I actually got to see live last year which was amazing! Outside of music, I've also been obsessed with soy matcha lattes! I switched from iced coffee to matcha lattes last summer to try and kick my coffee addiction but I think I've become addicted to matcha instead.

Thank you for all that you do, Regina!
