Who's Doing it Well? Hirewell's Employee Celebration Posts

One of the most frequent questions we receive — and try and answer at Holistic — is “Who is doing it well?” It’s always been really informative to hear the good ideas others have. After all, as we say, there’s no IP in inclusion. This feature will highlight creative ideas from other companies. Check out the whole list here or submit your own suggestion below.

Hirewell’s Jeff Smith is celebrating each employee on their team with an individual post on LinkedIn.

Who: Hirewell, a recruiting firm in Chicago, specializing in technology, HR, digital marketing and sales.

What’s the big idea 💡: Jeff Smith, who is the head of Hirewell’s managed services team — the team that works with client companies as an extension of their own HR teams — endeavored to post one post per day on LinkedIn celebrating a teammate.

Why it works: It’s ambitious — Hirewell has over 40 people. It’s soooooooo kind. It’s genuine. It’s something to do. It’s free. It’s an optimistic view on the whole “we’re gonna be stuck at home for another six weeks, at least” malaise that is going on right now. And it’s organic — it doesn’t come from the company itself, it comes from one guy. In some cases he doesn’t even work directly with the people he’s celebrating.

More importantly, people love it. “I feel very seen” is basically what we’re all going for when we talk about employee experience.

(Not so) hidden value: The medium is very powerful for this purpose. If Jeff walked up to a colleague and said, let me tell you why I love you so much, it’d be super awkward. Somehow, doing it in front of god and everybody on LinkedIn is actually a lot easier and more navigable.

The other thing that’s really interesting is that it serves as a 2020 Coronaquarantine version of those car ads that they used to make to help people feel better about the car they purchased. These posts are as much for the team at Hirewell as they are for the general public, and the reactions are very much a reflection of this as an internal communciations / hype effort. “Gosh I’m happy I work at Hirewell” is just as important as “Gosh I’d love to work at Hirewell in the future.”

TL/DR: Hirewell is celebrating each individual employee with a post.
